Warm Up
Just before we begin the next unit, let's pause and check in to see how things are going.
Please take a few minutes to take this student survey:

Thanks.
Lesson
OK, on with the next unit. Graphing is the longest and most weighed unit of the year.
To prepare for this unit open the app "Dragon Box". If another students has played it you can begin again by creating a new Avatar at the start of the game. Work through as many levels as you can, but keep in mind I will be asking you "what is the goal and what are some of the 'rules' of this game"? Once you practice and figure out what skills you are developing we'll apply them by practising on Khan academy. Practice the first two links in Unit 4 (under practice/videos): Review: 2 step equations and solving for y: converting to slope intercept form.
Next, let's look at why we are studying graphing? Check out this web site: http://www.informationisbeautiful.net/
Look for graphs that have topics that interest you. Now go to "google image" and find the graph of something that interests you. Take a screen shot of this graph and import it into a "pages" document. Then write a brief description of the graph: What is the graph showing? What conclusions can you make about the results of the graph?
I'll likely give you a few notes as well on some of the terms: Cartesion co-ordinates, axes, origin, ordered pairs, x and y axes, quadrants I, II, II, IV, discrete vs continuous
Wrap Up
Let's practice some graphing skills that you will be using a lot. Go to the third link on the practice/video page and work on: Review: graphing points - this is your HW.
